Description
The 1926 Sesquicentennial of American Independence Commemorative Gold Quarter Eagle is a commemorative gold coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 46,019, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Issued in 1926 as a companion piece to the Sesquicentennial half dollar, this $2.50 gold coin commemorated the 150th anniversary of American independence. The obverse features Liberty standing and holding a torch of freedom and a scroll representing the Declaration of Independence, while the reverse displays Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Designed by John R. Sinnock. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7466. With a net mintage of 46,019, the Sesquicentennial quarter eagle is one of the more available classic gold commemoratives. Its depiction of Independence Hall makes it a natural companion to the Philadelphia Mint and Declaration of Independence themes in American numismatics.
