The 1903 Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commemorative Gold Dollar - Jefferson is a commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 17,500, this is a scarce commemorative issue. Issued in 1903 alongside the McKinley variety for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. The obverse features a bust of President Thomas Jefferson facing left, who negotiated the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, while the reverse displays the denomination ONE DOLLAR surrounded by a wreath, with LOUISIANA PURCHASE EXPOSITION. Designed by Charles E. Barber. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7443. The Jefferson variety had a mintage of 17,500, identical to the McKinley version.
