Description

Recognized as a Top 100 RPM by both Wexler and CONECA, this 1919 San Francisco Lincoln wheat cent is cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #1 and Coppercoins 1919S-1MM-001 under Wexler Variety ID 1919-S 1 cent WRPM-001. Three obverse die states and three reverse die states are documented. Obverse Stage A shows a full lower loop on the secondary mintmark with a die chip on the left side of the W in WE and a NE/SW die scratch between GOD and WE. By Obverse Stage B, the lower loop of the secondary mintmark has been abraded away at the belly. Obverse Stage C retains only the west and east portions of the secondary mintmark. Reverse Stage A presents a light die crack and heavy abrasion from the E of EPU to the rim, with Stages B and C showing no additional markers beyond those present in Stage A. The Top 100 designation reflects the strength and clarity of the repunching, as the full secondary mintmark loop visible in Stage A provides one of the most dramatic RPM displays among early Lincoln cent varieties. The progressive loss of the secondary loop across die states makes early die state specimens particularly desirable.
