Description

The 1893-CC Morgan Dollar VAM-1 serves as the baseline normal die reference for one of the most celebrated key dates in the Morgan Dollar series — the final year of the Carson City Mint. The obverse die (III2 1) is a normal die of the III2 type with a closed 3 in the date, paired with reverse die C3a featuring a centered V-style CC mint mark. The Carson City Mint, which operated intermittently from 1870 to 1893, produced Morgan Dollars from 1878 to 1893 (with gaps), and the 1893-CC represents the absolute last silver dollar struck at this legendary Nevada facility. As the normal die baseline, VAM-1 establishes the reference standard against which all other 1893-CC varieties are compared — collectors examining potential VAM candidates begin by ruling out VAM-1's characteristics.
