A die variety on the key-date 1893-CC Morgan dollar, VAM-2A was discovered in 2013 and is classified as III2 1 - C3a (177). The Carson City Mint struck only 677,000 Morgan dollars in 1893, making it one of the lowest-mintage and most valuable dates in the entire series. This variety shows the CC mint mark tilted to the right and a clashed obverse displaying a partial incuse letter n — transferred from the word "In" on the reverse — visible next to Liberty's neck. Die clashes occur when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring incuse design elements from one die onto the other's working face. The incuse n beside Liberty's neck is the primary diagnostic for this variety. Cataloged by VAMWorld, the 2A suffix indicates a later die state or sub-variety refinement from the parent VAM-2 listing, reflecting additional die characteristics documented after the original attribution.
