Cataloged by MadDieClashes, this 1981-P Roosevelt Dime exhibits strong double clash marks that are well-separated, with the second collision creating a Type I counterclash visible on both faces. A counterclash is more complex than a simple die clash: it occurs when the dies strike each other multiple times, and an earlier clash impression transferred onto one die gets transferred back to the opposing die during a subsequent event, creating a ghost image of the original design appearing on the same side it originated from. On the obverse, the base and back of Roosevelt's neck appear duplicated from the counterclash effect. On the reverse, the oak leaf and olive branch elements are duplicated in the same manner. The well-separated nature of the double clash marks indicates the two events occurred with measurably different die alignment, producing distinct transferred impressions rather than overlapping ones. The 1981-P Roosevelt Dime was struck in copper-nickel clad composition at Philadelphia.
