2024 VDDO VDDO-005

Description

Honoring Congresswoman Patsy Takemoto Mink, this 2024 Philadelphia Mint quarter — attributed by VarietyVista as VDDO-005 — exhibits medium spread westward on three obverse elements: the D of GOD, the hair curl above the ear, and the upper eyelid. Mink made history as the first woman of color elected to the United States Congress and was a driving force behind Title IX legislation. The westward doubling on the hair curl and eyelid occurs on the most finely sculpted areas of the portrait. Three die stages have been documented. Stage A preserves the early die state, where the westward displacement is most sharply defined on the D of GOD and the delicate curves of hair and eyelid. Stage B shows mid-die state, pending confirmation. Stage C reaches late die state, also unconfirmed. As a VarietyVista Doubled Die Obverse, this variety falls within a cataloging system maintained independently of the Wexler and CONECA frameworks. Phebe Hemphill designed the reverse of the Patsy Takemoto Mink quarter. The obverse doubling on VDDO-005 provides collectors with three distinct diagnostic zones to examine under magnification when searching Philadelphia Mint rolls from 2024 production.
