2023 VDDR VDDR-002

Description

Second in a remarkable sequence of doubled die reverses sharing nearly identical doubling characteristics on the 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter, VDDR-002 shows light spread to the east on the upper central scale pole and lower left pan line. What makes this variety particularly interesting is that it was struck from a different working die than VDDR-003 and VDDR-004, yet all three independently developed the same doubling pattern on the same design elements. Each working die is manufactured separately through the hubbing process, and when multiple dies develop similar doubling, it suggests a systematic tendency in how the hub and die interact during manufacture for this particular design. Eleanor Roosevelt's quarter reverse, featuring the scales of justice and a quill pen symbolizing her role in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, concentrates fine linear elements where eastward displacement becomes detectable. The light classification means careful magnification is needed to identify the doubling, but the consistency across multiple dies makes this pattern a fascinating case study in die-making mechanics.
