Description

Eleventh doubled die obverse identified on the 2017 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield Cent, cataloged by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 2017-P 1¢ WDDO-011. Among the densest single-date DDO clusters in U.S. cent history, the 2017-P sequence demonstrates how modern production volumes create statistical certainty that some dies will exhibit hub misalignment. Philadelphia consumed hundreds of obverse dies during the 2017 production year, each requiring multiple hub impressions to achieve full design depth in the working die cavity. Even fractional misalignment between impressions — measured in thousandths of an inch — can produce doubling detectable under magnification. No independent cross-references from CONECA or other attribution organizations exist for WDDO-011. Collectors differentiating this variety from WDDO-010 or WDDO-012 must rely on the specific combination of affected design elements, spread direction and magnitude, and any unique die markers documented in the Wexler attribution files. The absence of published die marker data for many of these higher-numbered DDOs complicates field attribution.
