2017 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

The top-ranked doubled die obverse for the 2017 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent, DDO-001 was attributed by VarietyVista with die classification UVC-3409 and marker reference DMR-002. This variety displays medium extra thickness on the date numerals and on TRUST from the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Stage A documentation shows the obverse in early-to-mid die state with a small die chip on the upper left shield edge, also in early-to-mid die state, while Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. The extra thickness on TRUST and the date provides two separate diagnostic zones for cherry-pickers, and the die chip on the shield edge at Stage A offers an additional authentication marker for specimens struck early in the die's life.
