2017 Atypical Die Clash ADC-25C-2017-01MO
Error
Description
Discovered by Howard Schultz and cataloged as ADC-25C-2017P-01(MO), this 2017-P Washington quarter from the America the Beautiful series with the Missouri Ozark Riverways reverse displays an atypical die clash. Unlike standard clashes where dies meet in normal alignment, atypical clashes involve contact at unusual angles, transferring design elements to unexpected locations. On this specimen, reverse foliage is clashed into the fields east and west of Washington's portrait, and mill details from the Ozark Riverways design are impressed onto the portrait itself. Light clash marks also appear on the reverse west of the mill roofline. A die marker at the base of Washington's bust above the second R of QUARTER aids confirmation. Atypical clashes are among the more dramatic errors because they place recognizable elements where no design should exist.
