2011 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

The 2011-P Lincoln Shield Cent DDO-001 is the first catalogued doubled die obverse in the Shield Cent series, documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-3044 and DMR-002. Introduced in 2011, the Lincoln Shield Cent reverse features a union shield honoring the preservation of the United States. On DDO-001, strong extra thickness appears on the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST, with notching visible on the lower right corners — characteristic of Class I or mechanical doubling producing a thickened, shelf-like appearance. Three die stages are documented. Stage A (Early Die State) is unconfirmed. Stage B (Middle Die State) reveals three simultaneous reverse markers: a die gouge in the field above the RT of LIBERTY, a die chip on the lower bar of the E in CENT, and a light die crack along the upper left shield stripe. Stage C (Late Die State) is unconfirmed. The Stage B die gouge above LIBERTY and chip on the E of CENT are accessible confirmation anchors under low magnification. As the first listed DDO in the Shield Cent series, DDO-001 holds a historical position in Lincoln cent variety collecting.
