2009 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001
Error
Description
Bearing the DDO-001 designation — the first and typically strongest doubled die obverse cataloged for a given date — this variety on the 2009 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Cent Early Childhood issue displays a very strong extra cheek line on Lincoln's portrait. Cataloged as UVC-2636 / DMR-003, four die stages have been documented including an Extremely Early Die State (EMDS), allowing collectors to trace the die's full working life from its freshest impressions through progressive deterioration. The extra cheek line is among the most visually striking forms of hub doubling on Lincoln Cents, creating a clearly visible secondary contour on the portrait that can often be detected without magnification. The 2009 Early Childhood design, depicting young Lincoln reading on a log, was one of four bicentennial reverses celebrating Lincoln's 200th birthday — each representing a different life phase. Attributed by VarietyVista. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets, DDO-001 is the premier obverse doubled die for this commemorative design year.
