2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

Found on the Andrew Jackson Presidential Dollar struck at Philadelphia with Position B edge lettering, the 2008 WDDR-003 displays slight doubling on the right arm of the Statue of Liberty just above the sleeve of the robe and at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head with the right arm. Position B edge lettering indicates the inscriptions were applied with the reverse die facing up during the edge-lettering process. Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States who served from 1829 to 1837, appears on the obverse of this dollar. Obverse die markers include a die gouge northwest of the P in PRESIDENT and a small die gouge to the right of the bottom of the 8 in the date 1829. The Wexler designation is 2008-P $1 AJ WDDR-003. Presidential Dollar doubled dies present unique collecting opportunities because the series introduced edge-inscribed lettering to circulating U.S. coinage, and position variants add another layer of distinction to each variety listing.
