2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Sharing the same reverse die as its Position A counterpart, this Position B striking of the 2008-P Andrew Jackson Presidential Dollar WDDR-001 carries identical doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm on Don Everhart II's Statue of Liberty reverse. The distinguishing feature is edge lettering orientation: on Position B specimens, the incused inscriptions — date, mintmark, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and IN GOD WE TRUST — read upright when the reverse faces up rather than the obverse. This arose because Presidential Dollar edge lettering was applied in a separate step after striking, and coins could enter the edge-lettering collar with either face up. No significant die markers have been noted on either side. The Wexler Team cataloged WDDR-001 across three Philadelphia Mint configurations: Position A, this Position B entry, and a Doubled Edge Lettering Overlap where the edge inscriptions were applied twice. All three share the same die pairing — edge characteristics alone differentiate them. Struck in manganese brass clad composition. Examine the second ray clockwise from the head at the right arm intersection for the doubling, and verify the edge lettering reads upright from the reverse to confirm Position B.
