2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007
ErrorDescription
Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2008-D $1 JQA WDDR-007, this doubled die reverse appears on the Denver-mint John Quincy Adams Presidential dollar in the Position A edge lettering orientation. The doubling is visible at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from Liberty's head and her right arm on the Statue of Liberty reverse. Die markers include a die gouge (dot) to the left of the bottom of "two" in 1829 on the obverse, and a die gouge (dot) above the D in the designer's initials DE on the reverse. Position A refers to the orientation of the edge lettering relative to the obverse — when the obverse faces up, the edge inscription reads normally. The Presidential Dollar series (2007-2016) honored each U.S. president in order; John Quincy Adams, the sixth president, appeared on the 2008 issue. The Statue of Liberty reverse, common to all Presidential dollars, provides consistent design elements across the series for variety identification, with ray intersections being a frequent location for detectable hub doubling.
