2008 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011
ErrorDescription
Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2008-D $1 JQA WDDR-011 with no other known cross-references, this Presidential Dollar doubled die reverse displays doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty on Don Everhart's common reverse design. The Presidential Dollar was struck at the Denver Mint in manganese brass clad over copper at 8.10 grams and 26.5 mm diameter, honoring John Quincy Adams with dates 1825-1829 inscribed on the edge. Die markers on the obverse include a small die gouge below the O in JOHN and a small die gouge above the dash between 1825 and 1829 on the edge transition area. The reverse shows a short die scratch running northeast from the top right of the first S in STATES and a small die gouge appearing as a dot between the lower T and A in STATES. This WDDR-011 represents a different die pair than the WDDR-008 variety also cataloged for the same presidential issue, with doubling appearing at a different location on the Statue of Liberty design — the ray-arm intersection rather than the sleeve area. Collectors can use the distinct obverse die markers to differentiate between the two varieties.
