In 2006, coins were struck at the Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco Mints with a combined mintage of 12.4 million. This ranks 15th of 25 years by total mintage, above the series median of 10.8 million. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This original Sacagawea dollar design was used from 2000 through 2008. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
