The 2000 Sacagawea Dollar is a United States dollar from the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series — the first year of the series. In 2000, coins were struck at the Denver, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and West Point Mints with a combined mintage of 3.6 billion. This represents the highest annual mintage in the entire series, above the series median of 10.8 million. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original design by Thomas D. Rogers Sr. was used for all Sacagawea dollars from 2000 through 2008. First year of the Sacagawea Dollar. The "Cheerios Dollar" variety with detailed tail feathers (from coins distributed in Cheerios cereal boxes) is a valuable modern rarity.
