Description

The 2000 (P) Sacagawea Dollar - Goodacre Presentation is a special strike dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. With a mintage of 5,000, this is a rare issue — ranked 2nd of 8 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars representing the states in the Union at the time of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This original design by Thomas D. Rogers Sr. was used for all Sacagawea dollars from 2000 through 2008. First year of the Sacagawea Dollar. The "Cheerios Dollar" variety with detailed tail feathers (from coins distributed in Cheerios cereal boxes) is a valuable modern rarity. Glenna Goodacre Presentation Dollars in 22-karat gold finish were given to the designer. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
