The 2002 Sacagawea Dollar is a United States dollar from the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series — an early issue, 3rd of 27 years in the series. In 2002, coins were struck at the Denver, San Francisco, and Philadelphia Mints with a combined mintage of 10.8 million. This ranks 13th of 25 years by total mintage, at the series median of 10.8 million. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This original Sacagawea dollar design was used from 2000 through 2008. No dollars released for circulation. Production was limited to numismatic products (proofs and mint sets). Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Across its variants, estimated values range from $1 to $7 depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $8.1K in MS66 grade at Heritage Auctions.
