Documented in the Trail Dies catalog and discovered by Jay Dunn, the 2006P(NE)-25DEO-002T is a trail die obverse variety found on the 2006 Philadelphia Mint Nebraska State Quarter. Trail dies exhibit a faint secondary design impression offset from the primary, resulting from unintended contact during die manufacturing or setup — on this quarter, the secondary Washington portrait impression appears as a ghostly companion to the primary obverse design. Die marker documentation identifies Stage "C" at late die state (LDS) with the obverse displaying a die crack from the left base of Washington's bust to the U in QUARTER — a significant structural crack traversing a substantial distance across the obverse die face, indicating advanced die deterioration. The reverse at LDS shows a small die gouge to the left of the P in PLURIBUS. The 2006 Nebraska State Quarter is part of the 50 State Quarters Program (1999-2008), which produced unique reverse designs for each of the fifty states.
