CU-100c-2000P-01R Cud
Error
Description
With a remarkably recent catalog date of 07/04/2025, CU-100c-2000P-01R documents the first (and so far only) confirmed reverse rim cud on the 2000-P Sacagawea Dollar — the inaugural year of the golden dollar series that replaced the Susan B. Anthony Dollar. The "R" suffix designates this as a reverse die break, placing the cud within Glenna Goodacre's iconic design depicting a soaring eagle encircled by 17 stars, where the raised featureless mass from the die fracture disrupts some portion of this reverse composition. As the first cataloged cud for the 2000-P Sacagawea Dollar, this variety occupies a pioneering position in the die break census for a denomination that, despite being struck in large quantities, has received less systematic error documentation than cents and quarters because Sacagawea/Native American Dollars have seen minimal circulation use since their introduction — most specimens were absorbed directly into collector holdings, vending machine stocks, or U.S. Mint bulk inventory rather than entering the hand-to-hand commerce channels where error coins are typically discovered by the public. The manganese brass clad composition (88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel over a pure copper core) at 8.1 grams across a 26.5mm diameter gives the Sacagawea Dollar a distinctive golden color and smooth edge that distinguish it from silver-toned clad coins. No cross-references to other attribution systems have been established. The July 2025 recording date demonstrates that variety and error documentation continues actively for coins produced over two decades earlier, as collectors and attributors progressively expand the die break census for denominations that were previously under-examined.
