2000 Atypical Die Clash ADC-10C-2000-02

Description
Documented by MadDieClashes as ADC-10c-2000-02, this 2000 Roosevelt Dime displays a strong atypical die clash — a die clash event where the resulting transferred images appear in unusual positions or with unexpected characteristics that distinguish them from ordinary die clashes. The obverse shows a significant clash with parts of PLU from E PLURIBUS UNUM and some of the leaves from the olive branch visible in front of and on Roosevelt's face. Additionally, the negative shape of the oak leaves can be seen below the ear, and parts of the flames from the torch appear below the chin. The reverse also carries significant clash marks. Coin courtesy credit is given to George dePozsgay. Die clashes occur when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring incuse impressions of one die's design onto the other's surface. What makes this clash atypical is the strength and complexity of the transferred images, with multiple distinct reverse design elements — olive branch leaves, oak leaves, PLU lettering, and torch flames — all simultaneously imprinted onto the obverse at identifiable positions relative to Roosevelt's portrait. The Roosevelt Dime, designed by John R. Sinnock, has been struck in copper-nickel clad composition since 1965, weighing 2.268 grams with a diameter of 17.91 mm. The 2000 Philadelphia issue was produced in extremely high quantities, yet the specific die clash event that created this variety affected only the coins struck after the clash occurred and before the dies were replaced or repaired, making surviving specimens scarce relative to total mintage.
