Description

The 2000 (D) New Hampshire State Quarter represents a Denver Mint issue from the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 496.0 million examples, making this the lowest mintage among 10 mint variants, representing only 8% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse depicts the Old Man of the Mountain, the iconic rock formation on Cannon Mountain made of Conway red granite, with the state motto "Live Free or Die." Though the formation collapsed in 2003, it remains a cherished symbol of New Hampshire's rugged independence. Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Virginia. The program drove an estimated 147 million Americans to collect quarters. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906.
