Description

The 1999 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent, part of the Lincoln Memorial Cents 1959-2008 series. Die markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found well south of the last 9 in the date. A small die gouge can be found to the right of the lower G in GOD. The obverse shows evidence of abrasion to remove die clash marks in the area behind the neck and around the ear suggesting that pre-die clash specimens may even show more of the extra earlobe. Reverse: Two small die gouges can be found below the right end of the Memorial. Strong die clash marks show in the lower 4th and 9th Memorial bays. A die clash mark runs south from the bottom of the Memorial below the post to the right of the steps.
