Description

The 1996 (S) Proof Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Swimming Commemorative Half Dollar is a proof commemorative half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 114,315 examples. Part of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this half dollar celebrates Olympic swimming. The obverse features a swimmer in action cutting through the water, while the reverse displays the mark of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games with the Olympic Flame, Torch, and Rings. Designed by William Krawczewics/Malcolm Farley. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 11.34 grams, 30.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9713. The swimming half dollar captures the fluid motion of competitive swimming and completes the set of four half dollar designs in the Atlanta Olympic program.
