1996-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001
Error
Description
Extremely close spread towards the center on IGWT defines the primary DDO for the 1996 Denver Memorial Cent. Obverse markers: four small die gouges between the lower second nine and the six in the date, a small die gouge between the second nine and the mint mark, and a die gouge in the field right of the lower lip. Reverse: none noted. Despite Denver's enormous 1996 output exceeding 6.6 billion cents, WDDO-001 remains the only documented DDO for this date and mint, suggesting generally precise hub alignment during die manufacture. Attributed by the Wexler Team (Wexler Variety ID: 1996-D 1¢ WDDO-001).
