Description

Presenting light spread on the date and the final five letters of LIBERTY — specifically BERTY — DDO-004 on the 1995-D Lincoln Memorial Cent reveals a hub displacement pattern that selectively affected certain obverse areas more than others. The concentration on BERTY rather than the full word LIBERTY indicates the misalignment direction produced its strongest visible effect on the rightward portion of the inscription, with the L and I showing little or no detectable doubling. Die markers UVC-3361 and DMR-005 fingerprint this Denver Mint working die. The 1995-D cent was struck in copper-plated zinc composition (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper plating) at 2.5 grams, carrying Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait places LIBERTY vertically along the left field, and the lower letters B-E-R-T-Y occupy positions where angular displacement from the hub misalignment was apparently more pronounced. Simultaneous date doubling confirms the hub error affected the lower right obverse as well. Collectors should focus examination on the B and E of LIBERTY and the individual date digits for the clearest diagnostic evidence under 5x to 10x magnification.
