Description

Displaying the broadest doubling footprint among the VarietyVista-cataloged 1989 DDOs, the DDO-009 shows medium extra thickness on the full motto IN GOD WE TRUST as well as the date — affecting more legend text than any other variety in this group, which typically shows doubling limited to TRUST and/or the date alone. Cataloged with reference codes UVC-3330 and DMR-012, this variety's involvement of all four motto words indicates a hub misalignment of sufficient magnitude to impact design elements spanning the entire lower portion of the obverse from the motto area down through the date. The jump from DMR-010 (DDO-008) to DMR-012 suggests an intervening variety (DMR-011) exists in the VarietyVista system for a different 1989 DDO variety or another denomination entirely. As the highest-numbered VarietyVista DDO in the 1989 Philadelphia Mint census, DDO-009 represents the current endpoint of the catalog's coverage for this date, though additional varieties may be documented as collectors continue to examine specimens from this high-mintage issue. The expanded doubling across IN GOD WE TRUST gives this variety stronger visual impact than its date-only counterparts. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
