Description

Showing a D/D Tilted repunching with no currently known cross-references in other attribution catalogs, WRPM-012 (Wexler variety ID 1989-D 1¢ WRPM-012) is identified primarily through its die scratch patterns on both surfaces. The obverse features a series of northeast/southwest die scratches between and below WE of IN GOD WE TRUST — a localized scratch pattern concentrated in the legend area that provides a quick visual reference for attribution. The reverse displays a heavy northwest/southeast die scratch at the lower section of the eighth memorial bay, accompanied by a series of similarly oriented scratches in the ninth and tenth bays. The directional consistency of the reverse scratches — all running northwest to southeast across three adjacent bays — suggests a single event deposited foreign material across that section of the die face, leaving parallel impressions. As a variety without CONECA or Coppercoins cross-references, the Wexler designation serves as the sole authoritative listing, making it particularly important for collectors to consult the Wexler die marker descriptions directly when attempting attribution. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
