1989-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

Documented across four die stages with extensive die marker inventories on both surfaces, WRPM-001 (Wexler variety ID 1989-D 1¢ WRPM-001) is a D/D Tilted repunched mintmark and one of the most thoroughly cataloged RPMs in the 1989-D Lincoln Memorial cent series. The Stage A obverse shows a die gouge left of W in WE, die scratches running east from the lower G and D in GOD, die chips in the vest and west of the mintmark, and fine die scratches northeast in front of Lincoln's chin. Stage B adds a die chip in the upper right 9, a die dot above the right side of the mintmark, and a die gouge in front of the chin above the 9. By Stage C, a die chip appears in the field above the 8 in the date. Reverse markers progress from a die gouge south between ER of AMERICA and a gouge above O in ONE in Stage A, through multiple gouges under the second S in STATES and scratches in the O of OF in Stage B, to die cracks at the memorial base in Stages C and D. Cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #6 and Coppercoins 1989D-1MM-006. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
