Description

The 1982-D Lincoln cent RPM-001 documents a northward D mintmark repunching — D/D North — on a date already significant for its transitional year status: 1982 saw Lincoln cent composition shift from 95% copper bronze to copper-plated zinc mid-run, producing eight distinct recognized varieties for the date. The Large Date Bronze variety hosting RPM-001 is one of those eight. VarietyVista codes UVC-1159 and DMR-005 anchor the attribution. Stage A (EDS) is unconfirmed. Stage B is the best-confirmed state: die scratches running northeast appear on the obverse in MDS while the reverse has simultaneously advanced to LDS — an asymmetric die state pairing suggesting differential wear between the two faces. Stage C (LDS) is unconfirmed. The northward repunching is visible as a secondary D impression displaced slightly above the final mintmark, best seen under moderate magnification at the upper serif. Attribution of RPM-001 requires first confirming the host as the Large Date Bronze type before proceeding to mintmark analysis, given the eight recognized 1982 cent varieties.
