Description

Struck as a San Francisco proof Eisenhower dollar, this variety displays very close Class II doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and LIBERTY. Tim Wissert submitted the discovery, with photography by Billy G. Crawford. Obverse die markers include a die gouge southwest of the I in IN on the rim, a die scratch running due north just east of the middle horizontal bar of the E in LIBERTY, and a prominent die gouge northwest of the I in IN. Additional obverse diagnostics show a die gouge directly south of the I in IN on the rim, a short but distinct die scratch directly west of the vertical bar of the T in LIBERTY, and a small die gouge within the upper left portion of the U in TRUST. No reverse die markers have been noted. The Wexler Variety ID is 1977-S $1 Pr WDDO-007. Proof Eisenhower dollars from San Francisco were struck in limited quantities for collector sets, and the mirrored fields of these coins make even subtle Class II hub doubling more readily apparent under magnification than on business strike surfaces. Reverse: None noted.Submitted By: Tim Wissert (Photos by Billy G.
