Description

One of two distinct Bicentennial DDO-006 varieties sharing UVC-570 and DMR-010 die markers, this entry documents the Kennedy Half Dollar version — not to be confused with its Washington Quarter counterpart bearing identical catalog codes. The Kennedy Half features Gilroy Roberts's portrait of President Kennedy on the obverse and Seth Huntington's special Bicentennial reverse depicting Independence Hall, replacing Frank Gasparro's standard presidential seal for 1975-1976. Medium spread appears on IN GOD WE TRUST and the dual date 1776-1976. Three die states are documented: Stage A with both obverse and reverse in Early Die State, Stage B in Early Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). Struck as a copper-nickel clad proof at the San Francisco Mint, this Bicentennial half dollar carries the distinctive dual date celebrating America's 200th anniversary. Examine IN GOD WE TRUST and the dual date under 7x magnification for medium displacement on this Independence Hall reverse issue, and note that attribution requires specifying the Kennedy Half denomination to avoid confusion with the identically coded Washington Quarter DDO-006.
