1973-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

Showing clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately 12 o'clock, WDDO-002 on the 1973-D Kennedy Half Dollar affects IN GOD WE TRUST, slightly touches the date, and reaches L and Y in LIBERTY. The clockwise pivoting motion indicates the hub rotated slightly during the hubbing process, producing displacement that increases with distance from the 12 o'clock pivot — elements near the top of the obverse show minimal separation while those farther away exhibit progressively wider spread. A vertical die gouge southwest of the L in LIBERTY marks the obverse, while a die gouge left of the top of the star below the right side of A in STATES provides a reverse diagnostic. The 1973-D Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in copper-nickel clad composition at the Denver Mint.
