1972 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-003

Description

Concentrated rotational spread on ERTY of LIBERTY with light spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST and the numeral 1 of the date characterizes DDO-003 of the 1972 Eisenhower Dollar Type 1 (low relief) obverse. The graduated spread, strongest at peripheral LIBERTY lettering and diminishing toward the central motto, reflects rotational hub displacement where elements farther from the pivot point receive greater displacement. The reverse is designated RDV-001, the standard reverse die variety for Type 1 production. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-035 and DMR-006, three progressive stages are fully documented: Stage A shows both obverse and reverse at early-to-mid die state, Stage B presents both at mid-die state, and Stage C confirms both in late die state. Complete documentation across all three stages is noteworthy, indicating sufficient specimens have been studied to map this die's full production life. The 1972 Eisenhower Dollar exists in three obverse types, with Type 1 being the most common low-relief version. Struck in copper-nickel clad at Philadelphia, this fully documented Eisenhower Dollar preserves rotational spread concentrated on LIBERTY.
