1972 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-002
Error
Description
Not to be confused with the famous 1972 DDO-001 that commands four-figure premiums, the 1972 Eisenhower Dollar DDO-002 exhibits more subtle doubling — light spread visible on the center and lower points of the W in WE and the upper serif of the 1 in the date. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-034 with die marriage DMR-005, this variety progresses through three documented die states: EDS remains unconfirmed, while Stage B shows both obverse and reverse at mid die state, and Stage C displays late die state characteristics on both dies. The reverse is identified as RDV-001. Eisenhower Dollars were struck from 1971 to 1978, and the large 38.1mm planchet provides ample canvas for die variety detection. While DDO-002 lacks the dramatic visual impact of its more celebrated sibling, it represents an important entry in the Ike Dollar variety census and remains collectible in its own right.
