1971-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

With an S/S Northwest displacement, this 1971 San Francisco Proof Silver Eisenhower Dollar was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-137 / DMR-043: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B MDS with a die scratch northwest from the front serif of the 7 in the date, reverse MDS; Stage C obverse and reverse LDS. The die scratch from the date digit provides an attribution marker. The 1971-S Proof Silver Ike Dollar was among the first in the series, struck in 40% silver for collector proof sets. Gasparro designed the obverse with Eisenhower's portrait and the reverse depicting the Apollo 11 eagle landing on the moon. Weighing 24.59 grams at 38.1 mm, the Eisenhower Dollar was the largest regularly issued U.S. denomination of its era.
