1971-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

RPM-007 on the 1971-S Proof Roosevelt Dime is an S/S Northwest repunched mintmark variety, catalogued by VarietyVista under die pair UVC-567, DMR-010. The northwest repunch places the secondary S impression to the upper left relative to the final mintmark position, making this a diagonally directional repunch rather than a simple north, south, east, or west displacement. The variety is a Proof issue, struck at the San Francisco Mint for the 1971 annual proof set. Three die stages are documented: Stage A records both the obverse and reverse at Early Die State; Stage B is Middle Die State, currently unconfirmed; Stage C is confirmed to exist. The 1971-S Proof Roosevelt Dime was struck in copper-nickel clad composition — silver was eliminated from dimes after 1964, and the proof dimes of 1971 carry no silver content despite the San Francisco origin.
