Description
RPM-002 on the 1971-S Roosevelt Dime is a Proof issue catalogued by VarietyVista under die pair UVC-560, DMR-005. The repunch is an S/S South Tilted: the secondary S impression is displaced to the south and tilted relative to the final mintmark position, combining a directional shift with an angular rotation in the secondary punch. Die state progression covers three documented stages: Stage A is Early Die State; Stage B is Middle Die State; Stage C is confirmed to exist. The 1971-S Roosevelt Dime was struck in copper-nickel clad composition — silver was eliminated from dimes after 1964 — with polished Proof dies at the San Francisco Mint. The S mintmark on Proof coins was applied with particular care, yet hand-punching still produced repunching events when the second impression landed in a slightly different position or orientation.
