Description
The 1970 (S) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The U.S. Mint produced 214.5 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The 1970-D has a relatively low mintage compared to neighboring dates, making it slightly scarcer in high grades. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues.
