Description
Sharing the same general doubling description as DDO-008 — light spread and hubbing below the 7 — the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent DDO-009 is nonetheless a distinct variety struck from a different working die, differentiated by die markers UVC-2807 and DMR-010. The sequential UVC numbers (2806 for DDO-008, 2807 for DDO-009) suggest these two were cataloged in close succession, possibly discovered from the same batch of examined coins. Both show an extra bar below the 7 with light intensity, but the specific position, angle, and width of the secondary bar differ — distinctions that become apparent when comparing high-resolution die photographs side by side. This duplication of doubling characteristics reflects systemic conditions in the hubbing process at Philadelphia during 1970, where the same procedures applied across hundreds of die-sinking operations created similar misalignment patterns. Collectors must rely on die markers to distinguish DDO-009 from DDO-008.
