Description

Showing doubling above the 7 in the date, WDDO-004 on the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent is accompanied by distinctive die markers: parallel die scratches running southwest to northeast through TY of LIBERTY provide a quick visual fingerprint visible under moderate magnification before even locating the doubled die evidence. These parallel scratches, likely introduced during die polishing, cut across the letters in a consistent diagonal that random contact marks cannot replicate. Cross-referenced as CONECA 10-O-V, the suffix "V" designates Class V pivoted hub doubling — mechanically distinct from the Class I rotated doubling on WDDO-001 and WDDO-003. In Class V doubling, the hub pivoted around a point on the die face, producing displacement that varies in magnitude depending on each element's distance from the pivot. Collectors can use the SW-to-NE scratches through TY as a rapid initial screen before confirming the date doubling against CONECA 10-O-V reference photographs.
