Carrying VarietyVista identifiers UVC-933 and DMR-004, RPM-003 on the 1969-S Lincoln cent documents a repunched S mint mark through three well-defined die states, each distinguished by progressively dramatic obverse die scratches. In its earliest appearance (Stage A), the die shows pristine Early Die State surfaces on both obverse and reverse, with the repunch as the sole diagnostic. Stage B advances to Mid Die State, most readily identified by several strong die scratches running southeast between the 1 of the date and Lincoln's vest — a cluster of parallel striations that gives this stage unmistakable fingerprint quality. The terminal Stage C reveals the die's final chapter at Late Die State: five parallel die scratches cut through the 1 of the date, and a small die chip has developed on the lower lapel, while the reverse displays commensurate wear. The strong southeast-oriented scratches in Stages B and C suggest either a mechanical interference pattern from the die-setting process or progressive die polish marks applied during maintenance attempts to extend the die's service life.
