1969-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-502, this Denver Mint Washington clad quarter displays a D/D West displacement with the reverse identified as RDV-005. Die markers UVC-1185 / DMR-008: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with a die crack along the bust at MDS and a die crack down the eagle's right wing at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The concurrent die cracks on both the obverse bust and the reverse eagle wing at MDS document dual-surface structural fatigue developing simultaneously. Struck in a copper-nickel clad composition at 5.67 grams and 24.26 mm, the 1969-D was produced during the early years of clad coinage, just four years after the Coinage Act of 1965 replaced silver with base metals in circulating quarters. The RDV-005 reverse die variety designation adds another attribution dimension. FS-502.
