Recognized as a "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Variety, WDDO-016 for the 1968-S Proof Jefferson Nickel delivers a strong Class I (Rotated Hub Doubling) counterclockwise spread across LIBERTY, the star, the date, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the designer's initials, discovered by Timothy Wissert. Varieties. A Class I spread produces a rotational separation between the two hub impressions, which on proof coins is rendered in especially sharp relief against polished fields, amplifying the visual impact. WDDO-016 is similar in character to WDDO-005, WDDO-011, and WDDO-015, and collectors familiar with those varieties will find the same rotated-hub doubling signature here but with this die's specific spread magnitude. Obverse die markers include numerous fine die scratches inside the depressed area of the ribbon and at the end of the queue. No reverse die markers have been noted.
