Description

Class I rotated hub doubling producing a close, very light clockwise spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, the date, and the designer's initials FS characterizes this fourteenth DDO for the 1968-S Proof Jefferson Nickel. Class I rotation indicates the hub rotated slightly around its center between hubbing impressions, producing a consistent circular displacement across all design elements that intensifies with distance from the rotation center. Die markers include a die dot above the right arch and a die dot between the small and long left windows on the reverse, while no obverse markers have been noted. Wexler, the Proof designation confirms this was produced at the San Francisco Mint using polished dies and planchets for annual Proof sets.
