Cataloged as UVC-1657 and DMR-038 in the VarietyVista system, the 1968-S Proof Jefferson Nickel DDO-021 exhibits strong spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the star, the date, and the designer's initials. Struck as a proof, this variety's die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A shows the obverse at early die state with a die gouge west of the upper E of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Stage B is an unconfirmed mid-die-state. Stage C is an unconfirmed late die state.
