1967 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as FS-103, this 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar is cataloged as UVC-108, DMR-003 and displays strong rotational spread on IN GOD, the LIB of LIBERTY, the nostril, forehead, eye, lower lip, and hair at the top of the head, with the 1 of the date also affected. Light spread appears on TRUST, while the RTY of LIBERTY exhibits a dramatic triple spread. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with obverse and reverse in Early Die State; Stage B in Early to Mid Die State showing die clash marks under the ear and on the nose along with strong north-south die scratches on both sides; and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). Struck in 40% silver clad composition, the 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar was produced without a mint mark during the period when the Mint omitted mint marks to discourage hoarding. DDO-001 is the primary doubled die obverse for the 1967 date, and the triple spread on RTY of LIBERTY is an especially notable feature. The combination of rotational spread across nearly all obverse design elements, paired with tripling on select letters, makes this one of the most collected Kennedy Half doubled die varieties from the 1960s.
